Air Force using AECOM for runway rebuilds

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 13 (UPI) -- AECOM Technology Corp. of California will rebuild U.S. Air Force runways in Illinois and Washington under two task orders worth a combined $47.3 million.

Work under the orders will be performed at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois and at Washington's Fairchild Air Force Base and be completed by the end of next year, the company said.

The projects involve reconstruction of runway and taxiway pavements as well as replacement of the airfield lighting and approach system at Fairchild Air Force Base and milling and repaving the asphalt concrete at Scott Air Force Base.

Fairchild Air Force Base is home to the Air Mobility Command's 92nd Air Refueling Wing, and Scott Air Force Base is headquarters for the Air Mobility Command.

The company said the task orders were awarded under AECOM's indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract with the U.S. Air Force Civil Engineer Support Agency to provide worldwide design-build and construction services.

The contract, which was awarded during 2008 to multiple companies, has a contract ceiling of $4 billion with a basic ordering period of 60 months plus five one-year options.
