LONDON, Oct. 4 (UPI) -- Northrop Grumman Park Air Systems is supplying British forces with a radio system for air traffic control use in southern Afghanistan.
The radio system includes the T6 VHF /UHF transmitter and receiver equipment and will be fitted into deployable mobile cabins designed to be air-lifted into the region.
The cabins will be fitted out at Northrop Grumman Park Air Systems' facility in Market Deeping, England. This approach will ensure rapid insertion into current air traffic operations with a delivery target of this year.
An emergency radio system will also be provided in the new air traffic control tower being built at the Camp Bastion Airfield. A communications training program based at the British airbase in Leeming, England, will also be supplied under the contract.

"We are pleased to be part of the program of equipment enhancements being put in place to support the complex and intense air operations at Bastion."
Camp Bastion is a major military facility in southern Afghanistan's Helmand province. It is the headquarters for U.S. Marines in the province and British use its airfield for supplying troops in the field.
Northrop Grumman Park Air Systems, with headquarters in Peterborough, England, and in Oslo and Horten, Norway, supplies communication, navigation and surveillance systems for air-space operations worldwide.
