Elbit to upgrade tanks in Asia

HAIFA, Israel, Oct. 4 (UPI) -- Israel's Elbit Systems Ltd., announced it has received a $56 million contract to upgrade an Asian country's tank force.

The upgrade is to be performed within two years and is to include installation of advanced battle management systems and observation and surveillance systems.

The identity of the contracting country wasn't disclosed; neither was the model of tank to be modernized.

"Our selection for this upgrade project, following previous projects we have carried out for this customer, attests to the high level of satisfaction with our systems and performance," Joseph Ackerman, Elbit Systems' president and chief executive officer said.

Ackerman said Elbit Systems subsidiaries Elbit Systems Land & C4I -- Tadiran and Elbit Systems Electro-optics -- Elop, will take part in the project.

Elbit Systems Ltd. is an international defense electronics company engaged in a wide range of programs, including aerospace, land and naval systems.
