Rockwell system chosen for STUAS

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa, Aug. 25 (UPI) -- Rockwell Collins said its Athena 111m systems will be used in the U.S. Navy's and Marines' Small Tactical Unmanned Air System program.

The Navy and Marines project, with Insitu Corp. of Washington as prime contractor, is aimed at giving the services enhanced intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities.

"We are pleased to be working closely with Insitu on this important program," said David Vos, Rockwell Collins senior director of UAS and Control Technology. "Rockwell Collins' role in the STUAS contract validates the reliability and performance of our Athena flight control and navigation systems."

Insitu's Integrator STUAS is a modular-designed aircraft, allowing a variety of payloads. Its normal cruising speed is 63 mph and its service ceiling is 20,000 feet.

The Rockwell Collins 111m systems will allow the aircraft to perform with high accuracy and autonomy using a lightweight, small form factor avionics package.

The Integrator also flies with Rockwell Collins' GPS, which improves the position accuracy of the UAS and its subsystems, the company said.
