GE engines tested on Boeing 787

SEATTLE, June 17 (UPI) -- The new Boeing 787 completed its first test flight over the skies of Seattle with engines designed by General Electric, aerospace company Boeing announced.

Mike Bryan and Mike Carriker flew the Boeing 787 in its first test flight of nearly 4 hours over the skies of Washington with the GE engines.

Scott Fancher, general manager of the 787 program, said the test flight was a symbol of the dedication of GE and Boeing to the program.

"It's taken the collective resources and dedication of our teams to get to this day," he said.

The 787 is using the GE engine package to examine any impacts on flight characteristics.

"The airplane handled just like I expected," said Bryan.
