URS to support Army UAS communications

SAN FRANCISCO, June 10 (UPI) -- The U.S. Army selected URS Corp. to expand its command-and-control services with new communications operations for unmanned aircraft programs.

U.S. company URS announced it will provide its new unmanned aircraft system support services at the Air Force's 432nd Wing at Creech Air Force Base in Nevada.

The more than $95 million Unmanned Aircraft System Operations Center Support contract additionally includes New Mexico's 49th Fighter Wing at Holloman Air Force Base.

"We are pleased to have been selected by the U.S. Air Force for this important assignment, which expands our work supporting the command and control of remotely piloted aircraft in support of military unmanned aerial vehicle programs," Randall Wotring, URS Federal Services president, said in a statement.

URS says its will be expected to provide the Creech and Holloman UAS programs with communications, operations and maintenance support services among other requirements.

The Unmanned Aircraft System Operations Center Support mission systems is designed to provide mission-critical data to support pilots and sensor operators using the UAS platforms in Afghanistan and Iraq among other deployments.
