Germany selects NG for radar systems

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., June 10 (UPI) -- The Germany navy has awarded a follow-on contract to Northrop Grumman for the company to integrate several more vessels with modernized radar technologies.

U.S. defense company Northrop Grumman recently completed the installation of its Sperry Marine BridgeMaster E radar technologies on 70 German navy ships.

Under the new follow-on order, Northrop Grumman will integrate 10 additional German navy vessels with its new Sperry Marine VisionMaster FT radar systems, a next-generation navigation radar system.

Northrop Grumman was selected for the contract for its extensive radar installation support work across Europe including contracts with France, England and Sweden among other countries.

"Worldwide, the company has supplied more than 12,000 radars to over 60 international navies and coast guards," J. Nolasco DaCunha, Northrop Grumman Naval and Marine Systems Division, Naval Systems International vice president, said in a statement.

The new contract includes the installation of dual-channel radar technology on two of Germany's vessels along with the deployment of Northrop Grumman's personnel for training and engineering support services.
