Spartan, which also supports the Defense Department's Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicle program established to counter improvised explosive devices in Iraq and Afghanistan, says the subcontract with BAE System is worth approximately $27 million.

Company officials say the powertrain kits and other Spartan technologies will be delivered to Pennsylvania's Letterkenny Army Depot for the production of the Medium Mine Protected Vehicle.

"Spartan clearly possesses the agility to efficiently and effectively provide major customers like BAE Systems with the high-quality, unique components needed to produce mission capable, yet life-saving, vehicles," John Sztykiel, Spartan Motors president and chief executive officer, said in a statement.
