FAIRFAX, Va., May 28 (UPI) -- The Federal Aviation Administration selected General Dynamics to support a program advancing the improvement of safety and security in the U.S. airspace.
The contract with Virginia's General Dynamics is part of the FAA's larger System Engineering 2020 Research and Development/Mission Analysis Support program.
General Dynamics is one of three contractors supporting the $1.2 billion FAA program. The companies will compete for task orders under the airspace modernization initiative that will improve safety, security and advance flight-deck technologies.
The FAA program is also part of effort to improve operational capabilities for the U.S. airspace including task orders designed to research better trajectory-based operations; improve performance at high-density airports and increased flexibility in the terminal environment among other airport transformation requirements.
Marcus Collier, General Dynamics Information Technology senior vice president, said the company will work with a team that includes Gulfstream Aerospace and Jet Aviation to "deliver innovative and timely solutions to help the FAA quickly achieve NextGen objectives."
