Finland selects LM for EADS CASA upgrade

DENVER, May 25 (UPI) -- Finnish defense authorities selected Lockheed Martin to provide modifications to an aircraft platform that integrates a modern surveillance technology.

U.S. defense company Lockheed Martin received the contract to lead a team installing an airborne surveillance system into the Finnish air force's EADS CASA C-295 turboprop tactical military transport aircraft.

The approximately $100 million contract supports an initiative by Finland to modernized its intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities.

John Mengucci, Lockheed Martin Information Systems and Global Services-Defense president, said in a release the seven company industry team will work with the Finnish air force and companies in Finland to "maximize industry participation ensuring national autonomy."

"Lockheed Martin is honored to work with the Finnish air force," Mengucci said.

The technology integration for the contract, which also includes airborne surveillance ground systems, is designed to ensure that as advances are developed, the system will be capable of simple upgrades to remain an ongoing intelligence solution for Finland.
