Radio encryptors deploying to Afghanistan

CONCORD, Mass., April 27 (UPI) -- More than $9 million worth of military radio encryptors were ordered for members of military forces in Afghanistan, an encryption technology company said.

Technical Communications Corp. announced it received an order worth roughly $9.7 million from Datron World Communications, Inc., a HF/VHF tactical communications equipment supplier, for expansion of its DSP 9000 radio encryptors for Afghanistan.

TCC said it expects to complete the order by the end of 2010 under an accelerated-delivery request.

The company said the order stems from a push by U.S. military planners to equip Afghan national forces fighting alongside NATO allies.

TCC said it expected "significant growth" from the order but added it doesn't expect future orders of this size.

"TCC believes this new deployment will significantly increase the ability of the Afghan, NATO and U.S. forces to communicate securely over HF, VHF and UHF radios," the company added.
