Braxton starts work on new GPS

COLORADO SPRINGS, April 13 (UPI) -- Colorado's Braxton Technologies announced it started work on command-and-control products for the new GPS launch system.

Braxton, as part of a team led by Raytheon, won a U.S. Air Force contract for the ground system for the new Global Positioning System satellite constellation.

The control system includes developments that will increase the accuracy and reliability of the GPS. Additional advancements include anti-jam capabilities and other system security measures.

Braxton in addition to the ground system contract provides command-and-control products that are the backbone of the system that launches GPS satellites into orbit.

Braxton Chief Executive Officer Frank Backes described the GPS system as the "heartbeat of the planet," adding his company was committed to the next-generation of products that secured the system's success.

Braxton said work began this week at Raytheon's Colorado facilities. The value of the contract wasn't specified.
