PETAH TIKVA, Israel, April 2 (UPI) -- Gilat Satellite Networks Ltd. was selected to deliver satellite-based communications technologies to support a Latin America defense program.

Israel's Gilat announced it will deliver its SkyEdge II-based broadband satellite network technology to support a border security initiative for an undisclosed Latin American defense agency.

Gilat says its SkyEdge II high-speed voice, data and video delivery platform is designed to ensure ongoing mission critical connectivity even in remote sites.

"The new contract represents another important step in strengthening our position in the government and defense-related markets," Guy Moskowitz, Gilat Network Systems executive vice president of sales, said in a statement.

"Our advanced very small aperture terminal technology coupled with our experience in providing turnkey projects are key to meeting the complex and stringent requirements of defense and other government organizations."
