CATSA orders X-ray tech from Smiths

LAVAL, Quebec, Nov. 25 (UPI) -- The Canadian Air Transportation Security Authority has contracted Smiths Detection to deliver its X-ray technologies to support airport checkpoint security.

U.S. company Smiths Detection was selected to deliver two sizes of its X-ray systems to CATSA. Under the approximately $25.7 million deal, Smiths Detection will deliver its HI SCAN 6040 and HI SCAN 7555 Advanced Threat Identification X-ray variants.

Officials say the CATSA order is part of an effort to upgrade Canadian airport checkpoint security capabilities with Smith Detection's next-generation scanning technologies.

"We are delighted to continue our longstanding relationship with CATSA," Cherif Rizkalla, Smiths Detection president of Security and Inspection, said in a statement.

"Smiths Detection prides itself on continuously developing innovative solutions to improve checkpoint security. Our next-generation Advanced Threat Identification X-ray systems will enable more accuracy while improving traffic flow."
