Navy selects LPD 17 electronics integrator

TEWKSBURY, Mass., Nov. 13 (UPI) -- The U.S. Navy has selected Raytheon to become the total ship electronics systems integrator on the LPD 17 class of warfare ships.

U.S. company Raytheon received the contract to support the Navy's LPD alliance and provide the next-generation vessels with ongoing lifecycle engineering and support services.

Under the $197 million deal, Raytheon's Integrated Defense Systems unit will support the LPD alliance with total ship electronics systems integration along with other critical systems support.

"With this award, Raytheon will continue to build on our past performance of expertly delivering critical ship systems support to ensure mission success for our Navy customer," Dan Smith, president of Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems, said in a statement.

"We are committed to providing the U.S. Navy fleet with the technology, capabilities and support that it can count on to achieve its mission objectives with confidence now and in the future."
