BAE's APKWS moves to final phase

CHINA LAKE, Calif., Nov. 13 (UPI) -- BAE Systems announced a milestone achievement for its Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System following a recent U.S. Marine Corps test.

British company BAE says its APKWS airborne weapon technology has moved into a final phase after the system successfully hit a specified stationary target using a Marine Corps Cobra helicopter.

According to a news release the APKWS technology is designed to increase the "accuracy and cost-effectiveness of airborne weapon systems."

"Shooting APKWS is just like shooting a conventional 2.75-inch rocket, except the APKWS goes exactly where it's told to go," John Dougherty, Navy APKWS deputy program manager, said in a statement.
