Hawker Beechcraft, LM team for LAAR work

WICHITA, Kan., Sept. 16 (UPI) -- Hawker Beechcraft has teamed up with Lockheed Martin to jointly compete for future contracts addressing the U.S. Air Force's irregular warfare needs.

U.S. companies Hawker Beechcraft and Lockheed Martin announced their partnership in a strategic effort to propose solutions to compete for the Air Force's Light Attack and Armed Reconnaissance aircraft acquisition program contracts.

As part of new team Lockheed Martin's Systems Integration unit will support the Beechcraft AT-6 LAAR aircraft as the mission systems integrator while Hawker Beechcraft will be the prime contractor.

"This teaming agreement marks a big step forward in working to meet the Air Force's emerging irregular warfare needs," Bill Boisture Hawker Beechcraft chairman and chief executive officer, said in a statement.

"By teaming with Lockheed Martin, we will deliver an AT-6 LAAR aircraft that meets the training and light attack capabilities the Air Force needs in one flexible platform."
