British carrier support contracts awarded

LONDON, Sept. 8 (UPI) -- The British Defense Ministry announced the majority of its supply contracts supporting the construction of two new aircraft carriers have been placed.

Authorities from the British Defense Equipment and Support agency announced that supply contracts worth more than $85 million have been placed, the British Ministry of Defense reported.

The contracts, which include machinery, fixtures and fittings, are for the construction of the two new Queen Elizabeth-class aircraft carriers. Officials say the new contractors include Score Marine Ltd., Babcock Strachan and Henshaw, and McGeoch Technology Ltd., among several others.

"The vast majority of Queen Elizabeth Class supply contracts have now been placed," Tony Graham, Defense Equipment and Support head of capital ships, said in a statement.

"These latest orders begin to close out the few remaining supply agreements needed to finish HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales."
