LM completes C-5B variant modernization

TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif., Aug. 28 (UPI) -- Lockheed Martin announced the completion of its C-5B Galaxy aircraft modernization contract following the delivery of a final plane to the U.S. Air Force.

U.S. company Lockheed Martin was selected by the Air Force to upgrade its fleet of the C-5B variant strategic military transport aircraft as part of the Avionics Modernization Program. Lockheed Martin announced it has delivered the 50th modernized C-5B Galaxy under the program.

"Completing the B-model fleet marks a significant milestone for the AMP program," Lorraine Martin, Lockheed Martin C-5 vice president, said in a statement.

"We are at the halfway point in AMP aircraft re-deliveries, our modification teams have consistently been on or ahead of schedule, and our quality has been exceptional. We are delivering a significant capability to the warfighter, enabling the C-5 to fly wherever it's needed around the world."

Officials say the C-5A variant fleet modernization is continues at Travis Air Force Base in California and Dover Air Force Base in Delaware.
