Report: India's training market to grow

MUMBAI, Jan. 29 (UPI) -- India's defense sector received a boost Wednesday from a Frost & Sullivan analysis that forecasts growth for India's land-based training and simulation market.

Prompted by a modernization initiative by the Indian military and foreign investment, the Indian land-based training and simulation market is expected to grow an estimated 36 percent over a 10-year period ending in 2017, according to business analysis and consulting firm Frost & Sullivan.

The Frost & Sullivan report suggests new strategic alliances and collaboration with the Indian military and police forces, along with advances in the Indian software market, will support the land-based training and simulation market in India.

"Advances in software and information technology and the use of commercial off-the-shelf technology have encouraged new participants to enter this market," Srinivas Sishtla, Frost & Sullivan research analyst, said in a statement.

"In the last two years, there has been an increase in the number of requests for proposals for simulators for the Indian army, and this trend is expected to persist."
