Navy to test fasteners on hovercraft

HAUPPAUGE, N.Y., Nov. 14 (UPI) -- The U.S. Navy has contracted Permanent Technologies Inc. for the company to supply its fastener systems for testing on hovercraft.

Under the deal, New York-based Permanent Technologies will supply its TineLok Vibration-Proof fasteners to the Navy. Officials say the Navy, which has used the previous stainless steel TineLok fasteners on the hovercraft, will put the company's new fasteners through rigorous tests as a component of the new Hovercraft skirt design.

Permanent Technologies' next-generation TineLok fasteners are made from high-performance thermo-plastic. Company officials say the lighter material is expected to save on fuel consumption for the Navy.

"There is little doubt that high-performance plastic and other new materials are in TineLok's future," Loren Ball, Permanent Technologies president and chief executive officer, said in a statement.

"Our stainless steel products met all expectations for use on the Navy's Hovercraft. And we're confident the new materials will also meet or exceed the Navy's exacting requirements."
