Kongsberg to deliver Protector RWS tech

WASHINGTON, Aug. 6 (UPI) -- The U.S. military has contracted Kongsberg Defense & Aerospace for the company's Protector remote weapon station technology.

The $28.8 million contract, part of a $1.4 billion common remotely operated weapon station II framework agreement, was from the U.S. Air Force and Army. Under the deal Kongsberg will supply its Protector RWS in the CROWS II configuration.

The Defense Department's CROWS weapon station acquisition program is part of an effort to "enhance troop protection and lethality by providing soldiers with the ability to acquire and engage targets while inside the safety of a vehicle," the release said.

Kongsberg officials say work on the CROWS II contract will take place at the company's production facilities in Pennsylvania.
