MCLEAN, Va., May 14 (UPI) -- The U.S. Air Force announced it has contracted Science Applications International Corp. for work on a new aircraft component repair facility.
SAIC subsidiary Benham Companies will perform the work on the 18-month, $12 million deal. Officials say the company will design and build a new aircraft component repair facility at the Air Force Materiel Command's Georgia-based Robins Air Force Base.
Under the deal, Benham will demolish three existing structures and build a 63,000-square-foot repair center with a design to accommodate four bridge cranes. Benham will also design and construct the water, sewer, fire protection and alarm system, among other construction requirements meeting Defense Department anti-terrorism protection measures and LEED -- leadership in energy and environmental design -- certification standards.
"Our subsidiary, Benham, has been building facilities for the Air Force for more than 50 years," Bob Shokes, SAIC senior vice president and business unit general manager, said in a statement. "We look forward to designing and building a quality repair facility that will support the critical mission at Robins AFB for many years to come."
