Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding is a new sector of Northrop Grumman created by merging the company's old Ship Systems and Newport News shipbuilding divisions.

Northrop Grumman said it was the prime contractor on the Enterprise maintenance project that would involve maintenance, repairs and upgrades to the vessel and its systems.

"The entire Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding team looks forward to continuing our close working relationship with the officers and crew aboard USS Enterprise," said Ken Mahler, vice president of Navy Programs for Northrop Grumman's Shipbuilding sector. "At Newport News, we've been a continuous partner with the Navy on this ship for over 50 years. We look forward to working closely again with our Navy teammates to complete this important work on time and on budget."

The USS Enterprise is the world's oldest operating nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, and it was the first ever to be built. The carrier was constructed by Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding, and it entered operational service with the U.S. Navy in 1961.
