Babcock & Wilcox to supply nuclear parts

LYNCHBURG, Va., Jan. 30 (UPI) -- Babcock & Wilcox Co., based in Virginia, announced it has been contracted for the manufacture of nuclear components in support of U.S. defense programs.

Babcock & Wilcox is a subsidiary of engineering and construction government contractor McDermott International Inc. Company officials say the nuclear components production deal is worth approximately $500 million.

"These awards are for the manufacture of nuclear components in support of U.S. defense programs and are part of the previously announced $1.7 billion series of orders anticipated to be awarded by 2010," the release said.

"We are extremely pleased with these contract awards, which represent a continuing agreement that was reached in 2007," John Fees, Babcock & Wilcox chief executive officer, said in a statement. "These awards demonstrate our commitment to providing reliable and cost-effective products to our customers, while also reflecting the U.S. government's confidence in our ability to meet their ongoing needs."
