LGS contracted for Stuttgart upgrade

VIENNA, Va., Nov. 28 (UPI) -- The U.S. Army announced it has contracted Virginia-based LGS for network upgrades at the Stuttgart Army Airfield in Germany.

LGS is a subsidiary of Alcatel-Lucent and is a U.S. government contractor specializing in transformed communications and research and development-based technology. The company announced it has received an $11.2 million infrastructure modernization contract for network upgrade projects at three installations including Patch Barracks, Kelley Barracks and Panzer Kaserne at the Stuttgart Army Airfield.

"LGS continues to work closely with its customers to deliver key communications technologies such as voice over IP (Internet protocol)," Ron Iverson, LGS chief executive officer, said in a statement. "These technologies can give much needed new capabilities to the men and women serving our country while still delivering the level of security and reliability they have come to expect."

LGS will implement voice and data network upgrades in a modernization initiative to "ensure seamless interface with legacy networks as well as provide extensive security and business continuity services," the release said.
