WASHINGTON, Nov. 30 (UPI) -- The first issue of "The Technical Mujahed," an online magazine for would-be cyber-jihadis, has been published on extremist Web sites, according to U.S. organizations.
The 64-page document was distributed by the al-Fajr Information Center to password-protected jihadi Web forums Tuesday, according to ABC News and the SITE Institute, a non-profit which monitors Islamic extremists' use of the Internet.
SITE said articles in the magazine appeared designed to assist those who wanted to provide cyber-support services -- such as uploading videos of attacks -- to jihadi groups.
The magazine focused on computer and Internet security, with links to downloadable software, the institute said, with articles titled, "The Technique of Concealing Files from View;" and "How to Protect Your Files, Even if Your Device was Penetrated."
Other topics covered in the magazine -- written, SITE says, for the "intermediate to advanced user" -- include Global Positioning System satellite technology; video editing and encoding in different formats; and encryption -- Pretty Good Privacy software is assessed as "not adequate for the needs of the Mujahedin," according to SITE.
The editors urge readers to submit articles for publication in future issues. "The magnitude of responsibility which is placed upon you is equal to what you know in the regard of information," the editors write their "technical mujahed brothers ... Do not underestimate anything that you know."
