Boeing sells Harpoons to U.S. allies

ST. LOUIS, Aug. 4 (UPI) -- Boeing has signed deals to sell Harpoon missiles to five U.S. allies.

The St. Louis Business Journal reported Wednesday that Boeing's aerospace division has been awarded a $44.29 million Navy contract to provide missiles and warheads to Chile, Malaysia, Pakistan, Canada and Australia.

Boeing will provide 28 Harpoon all-up-round, or AUR, missiles to the five nations. An all-up-round package includes the Harpoon missile, its booster and a protective container that also serves as a launch tube.

Under the terms of the contract, Boeing will provide 20 tactical block II airlaunch AUR missiles to Chile and Pakistan, four exercise block II grade-B AURs to Canada, two tactical block II Harpoon missile body AURs to Australia and two tactical block II air-launched AURs to Malaysia.

The bulk of the Boeing work will be performed in St. Charles, Mo. Other Boeing manufacturing facilities involved in the contract include McKinney, Texas; Toledo, Ohio; Huntsville, Ala.; Clearwater, Fla.; Galena, Kan.; Elkton, Md. and Middletown, Conn.
