Chinese president promotes military reform

BEIJING, Oct. 27 (UPI) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao has urged top military leaders to encourage new military talent and reform military theory to improve the military's officer corps.

Hu made his calls for reform during a meeting with deputies attending the fourth Communist Party of China congress of the Chinese Peoples' Liberation Army University of National Defense.

Hu urged university officials to develop its reform policies by upholding Deng Xiaoping concept of "Three Represents" along with studying and implementing the conclusions of the Fifth Session of the Sixteenth Communist Party of China Central Committee.

Hu also strongly suggested that university officials give top priority to strengthening ideology and politics by studying the military writings of Mao Zedong, Deng Xiaoping and Jiang Zemin.

Hu was briefed on the general situation at the Peoples' Liberation Army University of National Defense. Following the briefing Hu attended a presentation of battlefield analysis and a drill by cadets posing as "red" and "blue" armies.
