Air Force looks at enemy satellites

WASHINGTON, Sept. 22 (UPI) -- The U.S. Air Force has deployed a special unit capable of jamming the communications capabilities of enemy satellites.

The Washington Times said Gen, Lance Lord, commander of the service's Space Command, said in an interview with the paper winning a war in space was vital and disrupting enemy satellites was an integral part of that.

"We're not talking about weaponizing space. We're not talking about massive satellite attacks coming over the horizon or anything like that," he said. "This is really a way to understand space situational awareness, who's out there, who's operating. We understand that."

Lord said other critical missions for his command, based in Colorado, were protecting U.S. satellites from weapons and jamming.
