Will Libya establish ties with Israel?

TRIPOLI, Libya, Sept. 21 (UPI) -- Is Libyan leader Muammar Gadhafi set to pay an historic visit to Israel?

Albawaba news agency reported that Palestinian sources claim that Lbyan press circles are reporting that "Israel and Libya have agreed on a surprise visit by Muammar Gadhafi to Israel, this following a failure to arrange a visit of Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon to Tripoli."

Libya has denying the report.

The Palestinian sources speaking on condition of anonymity added that Gadhafi recently told members of an American delegation that he wished to visit Israel. Gadhafi reportedly told his American guests during the meeting that his visit will help in normalizing relations between Israel and Arab and Muslim countries.

The same sources reportedly said Gadhafi is expected to hold meetings with several Arab leaders before he visits Israel in order to obtain their backing for his projected trip.

In 2004 Israeli Knesset member Ephraim Sneh said Gadhafi could establish diplomatic ties with Israel. "Gaddafi has made a strategic decision, and he is not a man of small steps."
