U.S. reports 182-plus ops in Iraq

WASHINGTON, Aug. 9 (UPI) -- U.S., Iraqi and coalition forces conducted more than 182 combined and independent offensive operations since late July.

The Defense Department said the operations took place between July 30 and Aug. 5. The operations resulted in the discovery and clearance of 109 IEDs (improvised explosive devices) and 32 weapons caches and the capture of 805 insurgents. Eleven foreign fighters were also killed or captured.

Among foreigners killed or captured were a Sudanese citizen and a Syrian.

In one operation, it said, an Iraqi and coalition team raided a location believed to be a bomb factory in Baghdad.
