Iraq to supply gas to Kuwait

KUWAIT CITY, Aug. 1 (UPI) -- Iraq has expressed commitment to a draft protocol to supply Kuwait with natural gas, the Kuwait News Agency reported Sunday.

The Kuwaiti Energy Ministry said the Kuwait-Iraqi Higher Technical Committee held its sixth meeting in early July and discussed the draft protocol, under which Iraq would export an average of 35 million cubic feet of natural gas daily to Kuwait for five years.

Kuwaiti Energy Ministry Undersecretary Eassa al-Own said it is important to respect the project's time schedules as Kuwait looks to expand operations at its electricity and petrochemical fields.

The two sides expect to sign the protocol during the committee's upcoming meeting.

Kuwait said it welcomed more Iraqi oil workers to receive training within Kuwaiti oil installations, and was ready to provide Iraq with spare parts necessary for its oil facilities.
