Fatah, Hamas leaders for talks in Cairo

CAIRO, Nov. 7 (UPI) -- Leaders of the Palestinian resistance groups, secularist Fatah headed by Palestinian Authority chairman Yasser Arafat, and the Islamist Hamas, are to hold talks in Cairo in the coming days, officials of both groups said Thursday.

Palestinian Authority officials said the meeting between the rival groups might take place on Saturday, but neither Fatah nor Hamas has confirmed the day.

However, Ahmad Ghunaim, a leader of Fatah on the West Bank, told United Press International Fatah will send a delegation to Cairo Friday and that the talks might begin on Saturday.

The meeting, observers said, was to discuss internal Palestinian issues, national unity and the resistance to the Israeli occupation.

The Fatah delegation, according to Arab news sources, was to include key figures such as Zakaraya al-Agha, a member of the movement's central committee, and Muhammad Rashid, an adviser to Arafat.

The Hamas delegation was include the chairman of the movement's Damascus-based political bureau, Khalid Mashaal, and Musa Abu Marzuk.
