Venezuelan govt claims to have foiled coup

CARACAS, Venezuela, Oct. 5 (UPI) -- Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said Saturday that the national intelligence service has foiled a coup against his government. Police raided the home of former Foreign Minister Enrique Tejera on suspicion that he was planning a coup as well as an attack against Cesar Gaviria, the president of the Organization of American States, who visited Caracas last week.
