Afghan aid pledges total $4.5B

TOKYO, Jan. 22 (UPI) -- World Bank President James Wolfensohn on Tuesday called the Afghan donors' conference a success with $4.5 billion being pledged by interested nations and international agencies. At a briefing with reporters, Wolfensohn said, "Personally, I am satisfied that we made a very good start because we've got breathing room for 12 months to get this (Afghanistan reconstruction) started."
