War Wrap: Latest news at a glance

Here are the latest developments in the situation in Afghanistan:

* The U.S. Justice Department has charged American Taliban fighter John Walker Lindh, 20, of California with conspiracy to kill Americans overseas. He will be tried in a civilian court and could face life in prison. Attorney General John Ashcroft said, "The United States does not casually or capriciously charge one of its own citizens with providing support to terrorists."

* In a statement released late Tuesday, Walker's family said they were disappointed that "the government has held and interrogated John for 45 days without allowing him any messages from his family or access to his attorney." George C. Harris, one of Walker's attorneys, said, "We are going to do everything in our power to make sure that John has a fair trial."

* A leading financier of the al Qaida terrorist network has turned himself in at the airport in Kandahar. CNN, quoting U.S. military sources, reported that the as yet unnamed financier "literally showed up at the front gate ... and is now in custody."

* U.S. troops in Afghanistan have uncovered a stash of weapons just outside their base in the southern city of Kandahar. Military officials said the weapons were found in a mud walled house equipped with an underground tunnel network, and was discovered after a group of seven armed men were seen heading towards the building.

* Another 30 detainees from Kandahar are expected to arrive Wednesday at the U.S. naval base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

* British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw said U.K. citizens captured in Afghanistan must be treated according to international law. British officials said three of their citizens are being held at Guantanamo Bay.

* U.S. officials are investigating reports that a U.S. citizen has been kidnapped and was being held hostage in Afghanistan. Clark Russell Bowers -- flew from Istanbul, Turkey to Kabul, Afghanistan, and called his wife to tell her he had been kidnapped and was being held for ransom.
