Jordan King accepts Cabinet resignation

AMMAN, Jordan, Jan. 14 (UPI) -- Jordan's King Abdullah on Monday accepted the resignation of the government of Prime Minister Ali Abul Ragheb, who was then assigned the task of forming a new Cabinet.

The king said the formation of the new government was in preparation for general elections in the country this year, according to the official Jordanian news agency, Petra.

He emphasized the importance that all citizens take part in the legislative elections, which he said would be "an example of integrity and freedom."

The new Cabinet, under which the foreign and interior ministers were expected to be replaced, would be the third since King Abdullah took over as Jordan's leader since the death of his father, King Hussein, three years ago.
