Chinese PM Zhu Rongji arrives in India

NEW DELHI, Jan. 13 (UPI) -- Chinese Prime Minister Zhu Rongji on Sunday arrived in the Indian capital for a six-day visit during which he will hold bilateral talks with Indian leaders.

Zhu, who is the first Chinese premier to visit India since Li Peng's 1991 visit, is expected to call upon India to show restraint in the ongoing military standoff with Pakistan.

India is expected to apprise the Chinese premier of its concerns over Pakistan-sponsored cross-border terrorism, Press Trust of India reported.

China is Pakistan's close ally and Pakistani President Gen. Pervez Musharraf has twice visited China following the Dec. 13 attack on Indian parliament that Ne Delhi blames on Pakistan-based rebel groups.

The two nations are also likely to sign agreements for cooperation in space, science and technology and some WTO trade-related issues during the visit.

Besides meeting all the top government ministers, Zhu will also address Indian businessmen. He is accompanied by a Chinese business delegation.
