Howard wins Australian election

SYDNEY, Nov. 10 (UPI) -- In one of the most incredible turnarounds ever seen in an Australian election, Prime Minister John Howard's Liberal-National Party coalition government Saturday won its third straight election with an increased majority. With nearly all votes counted, the government looks likely to win 80 of the 150 seats, easily edging out the opposition Labor Party, led by Kim Beazley, which is likely to win 67 seats. Independents will pick up three seats.
