Israel kills Hamas, Islamic Jihad militant

By SAUD ABU RAMADAN, United Press International

GAZA CITY, Gaza, Oct. 31 (UPI) -- Two members of Islamic militant groups were killed Wednesday in West Bank sorties by Israeli forces, which had blamed the men for attacks on Israeli interests.

Palestinian security sources said 27-year-old Jamil Jadallah was killed and four people were injured by a missile fired by an Israeli helicopter in Hebron. The Israelis said Jadallah was a member of Hamas and played a role in the bombing of a restaurant in which at least 15 people died.

The sources identified the other person killed as Abdullah El Jarousha, 40, a prominent member of the Islamic Jihad. He was reportedly shot as he left his house in Hebron.

Hamas and Islamic Jihad members vowed in separate leaflets to answer the killing of Jadallah and Jarousha and said the result "would be painful."

The killings could put the Sept. 26 cease-fire in jeopardy, Palestinian Information Minister Yasser Abed Rabbo said. Both Hamas and Islamic Jihad oppose the peace talks with Israel.

Israeli Radio Arabic service reported that the Israeli army arrested early Wednesday six Palestinians near the West Bank town of Jenin. Two of those detained are members of Islamic Jihad and, the army said, were planning attacks in northern Israel.
