15 worshippers killed in church attack

BAHAWALPUR, Pakistan, Oct. 28 (UPI) -- Unidentified gunmen on motorcycles opened fire Sunday on a Christian church in southern Pakistan, killing at least 15 worshippers, police said.

Dozens more were reported wounded when the six gunmen entered Saint Dominic's Catholic church and opened fire.

Witnesses told Sky News they believe Pakistani Muslims who oppose the U.S.-led attacks on Afghanistan targeted them. Authorities said the attack was the first on Christians in the area, located near the border with India.

So far, no one has claimed responsibility for the attack. Christians make up 1 percent of the Pakistani population.
