QUEBEC CITY, Sept. 19 (UPI) -- Energy company Enbridge says the inauguration of its Lac-Alfred wind farm in Quebec means more than 30 percent of its provincial energy comes from wind.
Enbridge joined renewable energy company EDF EN Canada for the inauguration of the 300 megawatt wind farm. Built in two phases over the course of two years, the project represents an investment of approximately $700 million, the companies said.
The Lac-Alfred wind farm consists of 150 turbines. It's the third such project to be placed into service through the partnership.
"With all 300 megawatts of Lac-Alfred now online, more than one-third of Enbridge's total wind power capacity is now in Quebec," Don Thompson, vice president of green energy for Enbridge, said in a statement Wednesday. "This reflects our view of Quebec as an attractive place to do business and we continue to investigate opportunities to expand our investments in the province."
EDF EN Canada and Enbridge have more 530 MW of installed wind capacity in Quebec.
