Nabucco stands by current timeline

VIENNA, Oct. 13 (UPI) -- The launch date for the Nabucco natural gas pipeline for Europe is 2017, though a spokesman said from Vienna that timelines are dependent on gas availability.

In early October, officials from the Nabucco, the Interconnector Turkey-Greece, and the Trans Adriatic Pipeline submitted proposals to Azerbaijan. Baku said it would deliver as much as 350 billion cubic feet of natural gas per year from its Shah Deniz-2 project in the Caspian Sea through whichever project it picks.

Christian Dolezal, a spokesman for the Nabucco consortium, said members were waiting for decisions from Baku before evaluating the timeline for the project.

"Start of construction is still planned for 2013 and we do not currently foresee any delays," he said. "We want to finalize the construction by the end of 2017 so that everything is in place when the gas is ready for export."
