Czechs investing in Ghanaian energy

ACCRA, Ghana, Nov. 24 (UPI) -- Ghanaian Vice President John Mahama met with officials from the Czech Republic regarding their interest in investing in the country's energy sector.

Mahama recently visited the Czech Republic on an investment tour during which he urged Czech investors to consider investing in Ghana, The Ghanaian Times reported Wednesday.

A Czech delegation, headed by Frantisek Vladar, director of international division of CDK Energy, experts in power transmission and generation, visited Ghana for discussions with the Ghana Grid Company Limited and other power supply companies.

Mahama welcomed the delegation and assured them of the government's commitment to private sector participation in the energy sector, stressing that with that collaboration, Ghana could become a better investment destination.

Mahama stated that Ghana's credentials as an oasis of peace and possessing a stable democratic government gave it a favorable position ahead of other regional countries in attracting foreign investment.

During his recent visit to the Czech Republic, Mahama appealed to the Czech Prime Minister Petr Necas, at his office in Prague to support Ghana's development.
