RIL said it has drilled five wells in the block with the oil discovery located in the fifth well. The well was drilled to 4,760 feet in the larger section of the block to explore the play in the Miocene Basal Sand of the Babaguru formation.

The thickness of the oil reservoir was 49 feet and it produced an initial flow rate of 500 barrels of oil per day.

RIL said it has notified the Indian government of the new discovery. Further analysis will determine the commercial prospects for the well.
