Under the partnership, Bionersis installs and operates methane recovery and flaring systems on landfills in Asia. The E.ON renewable division will provide technical expertise for gas-fired power.

Biodegradation processes in the decomposition of organic material in landfills give off methane as a byproduct.

The first project for the partnership is at Kamphaeng Saen in Thailand, one of the largest landfills sites in the region.

The gas system for the landfills reduces methane emissions resulting in the production of around 2 million carbon credits. Revenue from the $7.5 million investment will be shared between both companies.
