Americans support nuclear, poll suggests

WASHINGTON, March 27 (UPI) -- According to a recent poll commissioned by the U.S.-based Nuclear Energy Institute, 70 percent of Americans favor nuclear energy.

The poll was conducted for the institute through a telephone survey of 1,000 adults done by Bisconti Research Inc. in conjunction with GfK Roper.

Results also suggested that the number of Americans who voice support for nuclear outnumber those opposed by more than two to one.

The majority of those polled said they believe the United States "should definitely build more nuclear power plants in the future."

The same people support federal incentives to build nuclear, wind and solar facilities to meet growing power demand.
