OTTAWA, Aug. 25 (UPI) -- Canadian company Bruce Power's nuclear plant proposal is moving forward.

The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission issued two documents, the final Environmental Impact Statement Guidelines and the Joint Review Panel Agreement, which will advance Bruce Power's proposal, the company announced.

Bruce Power had proposed to build four nuclear plants near Lake Huron to generate about 4,000 megawatts. The proposal includes plans to prepare the site, an existing Bruce Power nuclear site, build and decommission the four plants.

The EIS Guidelines identify the information Bruce Power needs to prepare its EIS and list the requirements for a license to prepare the site. The JRP Agreement explains how the panel will function and the terms for conducting the environmental assessment and site preparation.

From April 4 through June 18, the regulatory bodies of the government accepted public comments regarding the two documents.

JRP members will be appointed and Bruce Power will submit its EIS and licensing documents. There must also be a public forum on the EIS after it is submitted.
