L&T to complete Cairn pipeline by 2009

NEW DELHI, April 9 (UPI) -- Larsen and Toubro said it would complete an oil pipeline to evacuate Cairn's crude from India's Rajasthan state by 2009.

The engineering and construction company said Wednesday it would complete a 585-kilometer pipeline for the evacuation of crude from Cairn India Ltd.'s Rajasthan field by June 2009.

"We are talking of project completion to merge evacuation of crude that is planned for second half of 2009,'' L&T's President (Operations) K. Venkataramanan told the semi-official Press Trust of India news agency.

Cairn had in February awarded a contract to L&T for the constructing of a heated pipeline to transport crude oil from Barmer, Rajasthan state, to Salaya, Gujarat state. Venkatramanan said the pipeline would start functioning by June 2009 and the remaining work would be done by December 2009.

"There are restoration works of the land that would stretch to December 2009,'' he said.

The work won't affect the transportation of crude oil. Cairn plans to start pumping crude from its Rajasthan field by the third quarter of 2009.
